Oh shit, I had no idea french toast was getting so fancy! I used to think it was fancy if it was dipped in crushed cornflakes to make it crunchy :D

I don't normally go out for breakfast because breakfastfoods tend to be the kind of thing I want to cook for myself; I like to cook my own eggs, and I don't usually eat much breakfast meat. Unless I'm having eggs and toast, I often eat very untraditional foods for breakfast (homemade pizza, a hot sandwich, cottage pie, etc). But I do love french toast and it's often what I get when I do go out for breakfast, partly because usually the portion is pretty reasonable and I often have trouble finishing a breakfast if I go out for it.

I feel like maybe I've talked about this before, but until fairly recently I thought XO Marshmallow was a makeup company. It was just so frilly! I wasn't put off by the frills but there are so many makeup/soap companies that market themselves like they're frilly food companies that I just assumed. I certainly didn't know they had a cafe! I'll have to try it out -- I'm not in that area super often but I feel like I'm going to be soon for some reason, and it's not like it's super far to go.

I'd heard of Batter & Berries but their french toast looks off the hook. Their Chicago location is...perilously close to Rotofugi, one of my favorite weird art tchocke stores. I might have to schedule a trip special.

This weekend I'm traveling and next weekend as well, so I was only going to be in the office two days next week; I decided to just take the time off, so I do have two days free in Chicago and I might schedule a field trip....

Hey, dont be sad. 2 slices of brioche bread, spread Nutella in between, dip in egg and milk french toast batter, coat in crushed cornflakes, fry in frying pan, and bake in an oven for 10 minutes. Serve with maple syrup and/or mascarpone. Ok?

Breakfast in the household:

Kai has his usual bacon butty, there's just something about Fae's bacon that's so fucking good. He also has coffee. I think I saw @tinymoon-beam say this about little phantom and it was so adorable I had to go nick it (I'm so sorry<3), one time when KitKat was little he got upset because Kai wouldn't let him drink from his mug. So Fae made up a VERY lukewarm hot chocolate and Kai threw some cinnamon on and now they've tricked him into thinking it's a special kind of coffee. At first to appease his little mind, but now if you dare fucking tell him even when he's big that his mug isn't full of "coffee" you will be shot on sight.

Kit typically goes for kids cereal and strawberries. He's very attached to strawberries so he also has a glass of milk with those milkshake straws on warmer days when he doesn't want his "coffee"

Rylan developed a soft spot for marmite on toast and a cup of tea, he's literally the last person aesthetic-wise you expect to be wandering around with a big ass mug. I love that you're a Brit shakes cuz I can just say stuff and there's a 99% chance you get me. Rylan was gifted the massive fucking sports direct mug for Christmas of their first year in the home.

Mikaela has a little more of an "expensive" taste, Fae loves to rustle up an omelette for her, or some french toast. She's also one to take her plate outside to the garden on good days

Tyler opts for a roll, rather than a butty, sausage, bacon and maybe an egg slapped on top too if it's an omelette day for Mick. Usually wrapped up for him in some tissue or foil so it's a "breakfast on the go" type of thing. Sometimes he's chasing after his little (note: regressed) boyfriend who just can't sit still or Dante's late for breakfast and that means he's most likely up on the arches smoking and Tyler goes to track him down. Rylan may be Dante's best friend but those two have an unspoken bond.

Azazel has always skipped out on breakfast, but can be forced down when it's a family thing and Fae cooks a breakfast for them for an occasion.

Dante likes cornflakes. Dante also likes spices. Dante also likes huffing acetone and develops rashes and sores in and around his mouth and has to have the spices forcibly removed from his hands because this bitch put paprika on cornflakes and irritates his mouth.

Fae has a pick n mix breakfast, nibbling at everything she makes everyone and in true mum fashion, eating any leftovers. She feels bad that she falls under the stereotype of a girl getting up early and doing all the cooking for everyone all day. But growing up, the kitchen was her safe space. It's where she has protection, hiding spots, and now with this family, a purpose she fights to keep. Literally fights because if you walk in her kitchen she will (lovingly) wang a utensil at you. She likes the purpose and knowing she keeping everyone happy and healthy, and everyone loves her cooking and baking. Just don't try and take anything. Because she will actually throw something at you. And that is a risk a stoned Dante is willing to take for cookies.

The house's appearance:

Uhhhhh so search up gothic mansion on Pinterest. Because that is like the closest you'll get.

The house has always been shifting appearances in my head so it's hard to pinpoint because you'll have dark hallways that lead out into a massive marble passage and stairway. It's just a mix of everything.

So lemme give you lore instead haha. The "house" is actually a giant fucking run down mansion, Azazel put time and effort into making it livable for them and they make it work, they wouldn't have it any other way. Okay tell a lie the one thing they would change is how far away their rooms are. Azazel and Rylan's room is the further away, it takes a solid hour of walking to get from the entrance to their room on the fourth floor. And that's if the house is being nice. It's loosely based off H.H.Holmes' murder mansion. The lord of the manor built it to be a confusing trap, if you run down a corridor instead of walking, the walls are triggered and your path is cut off and rerouted. Stairs can give way to a long drop down. The servant's corridors which are used as shortcuts aren't to be confused with the trick servants corridors that slowly press in tighter until it's too late for you to realise you're stuck. And if course the regular lockdowns that trigger every trap imaginable and they have limited time to escape the house.

Living there has made them all very adept at parkour. Someone says they'll swing by your room to grab somwthing? Yeah they aren't taking the door, they're going out the first available window, scaling down the building, onto the balcony and into your room that way.

The initial room allocations were as follows:

Rylan and Dante - first floor

Mikaela and Kai - second floor west

Kit and Tyler - third floor west

Fae and Azazel - third floor east

Relationships and natural "disasters" lead to a little shake up and currently it is:

Mikaela and Kai - second floor west

Kit and Tyler - third floor west

Rylan and Azazel - fourth floor east. Rylan and Fae swapped places but three years ago they came back from tour and a storm ripped the wall of their room away, leading to rylan and azazel moving all their shit to the rooms above them, meaning they've managed to keep their little private garden.

Decorating isn't too much of a thing on account of the house lockdowns being destructive and also the ghosts not liking change. The house still has the aesthetic and air of an old manor, just with some electric cables, solar panels and an Xbox jammed into a corner. But seriously everyone's room has their own "vibe", it may still mostly fit in the the look of the house but they all have their own touches.

Now. The music they make. Oh boy. How do I explain. It's so dumb cuz you can tell what I was into at the time.

I was heavily influenced by kpop at first so it's easy to break it down into vocal and rap lines. I'll give a summary of what they do I'm so sorry I can't explain this well haha.

I may have stolen some names for the band.

So they're called All Time Low cuz the name fit. All time low doesn't exist, their music exists under a random ass name to make up for the fact I stole their name haha.

The rap line (Azazel, Kai, Tyler) is called Killswitch, and the final sub unit is called Cover Fire (Azazel, Kai, Tyler, Rylan, Kit) as they're the ones responsible for performing live covers.

Azazel - leader, main rapper, main vocalist, main dancer, has a version of a "violin" she occasionally plays.

Rylan - guitar, bass, keys, vocals, main dancer

Kai - bass, rap line, a dash of screamo but he's a nervous baby

Mikaela - vocals, main dancer

Dante - vocals, main dancer

Fae - vocals

Tyler - drums, rap line

Kit - vocals, and just being an all round cutie patootie regardless of stage concept.

So yeah, early years being so influenced by kpop, everything had choreo. I still remember a lot of it to this day. However with the ghost hyperfixation, there's more focus and inspo on cover fire and their live performances.

Now then. Mikaela. Middle child of the house. Raging bisexual. She is honestly a babe. Loves her family fiercely and absolutely hates seeing any of them being less than happy. Micky is stereotypically the Hot One™, if you wanna dip your toes into sad stuff she (alongside Rylan) is very hypersexual and has a lot of issues going on. One of her main things the two of them are outspoken on is things like sexual liberation. They love to see their shyest members come into their skin, start to grow their self esteem and then finally finally start to join in the FREQUENT nsfw conversations they all have. Talking about their experiences, their thoughts, fantasies. Time was Fae never would've said a word, but now? Oh sometimes Dante will tackle her over a sofa because Mikaela is encouraging Fae to talk about her and Dante's night. Not to worry this is all consensual, secrets never keep long, they just don't wanna be the latest family joke like Rylan was when they found out his private nickname was "baby bird".

Mick was once a sex worker, she's extremely good at pole dancing and oh my fuck, her muscles. You can sometimes forget they're there until she pulls herself up and mm biceps.

She doesn't really come across as a maternal person, caring in her own ways. One time kit had a freakout and ended up pulling his eyelashes out. She sat with him every morning and would painstakingly apply false lashes to his lids in a way that looked natural without interfering with his lashes regrowing just so he could stomach looking in the mirror. Regressed kit is when she goes from mommy to mummy. She was part of the reason kit became so comfy with femme clothes and makeup. He always wanted to dip his toes into it, followed a LOT of femboy accounts. And then whaddaya know, the little fucker comes out as genderfluid. Mick was the starting point for him, she had to have an emergency makeup touchup before a performance because kit typically has two stage outfits, femme and masc, and always stuck with the masc despite being out. So that performance where she said fuck it, and put on the dress before they went on stage? Tears from everyone, the were so proud, Mikaela especially.

RYLAN AND HIS BLOOD MONEY PRESENTS AHAHAHAHAHA

So Azazel can be stingy. Like holes in her underwear, held together by a couple stitches "it's fineeee". And they had a lil weekend away in London because they had to take care of business. And they were walking down Regent Street and EVERY SINGLE TIME her gaze lingered on something for more than a second he'd do a 180°, pull her into the store, and force her to look around and admit to what she liked.

One time Mikaela was in a town and saw a GORGEOUS bass guitar, and Kai doesn't own his own, he uses Rylan's, so she was desperate to get it. She tells the guy she wants it, he packages it, and tells Kai to go leave it in the car while she pays. Yeah so her card declined. SOMEHOW she convinced the guy she would be right back with a working card cuz KAI HAS ALREADY WALKED OUT THE STORE THINKING HIS GIRLFRIEND WAS TREATING HIM. The gang had already seen Kai and got excited over the case he was carrying, and then they clock Mick. High heels thundering down the high street and her face is just screaming "rylan card pleasepleaseplease". He passes it over, no questions asked and Kai doesn't know this happened.

Kpop albums and merch for the kpop stans, makeup and skincare, nail supplies for Kai, anything someone gazes wistfully at fir a second too long? Bought. He just wants to make everyone smile.

Mick one opened his toy chest and was marvelling at a glow in the dark dildo he had, and he was like "yknow it's exactly the same as another I own, just glow in the dark. Take it Mick."

Fae has fish, they're in her room and thankfully the tank is safe during house lockdowns. There's a lot of dogs running around too. Weirdest pet has been the lamb. Wearing baby nappies. Totally not inspired by real life. (I can drop the pictures if you want lmao)

Pets aren't something I thought about as I focused more on the farm and Azazel's sheep, oopsie

So they're almost isolated from modern society on this island. The local inhabitants are still in the middle ages. They gotta don some era-appropriate clothing in order to fit in as best as they can on market days. Azazel had to sell some produce in order to get her hands on the currency. So they get grains and meat from the local market usually UNLESS the locals are struggling. Then they fuck off to Tesco because they have that option. The veg patch started as something to occupy kit, he already loved the flowers but there's so much free time for him he ran out of things to do, so Azazel started him growing strawberries, which has now escalated into a variety of produce.

Fae's the best cook, she takes her job so seriously and everyone loves her cooking. Rylan does make a banging lasagne though. And the Spanish Lads™ (Kit, Tyler, Dante) come together to make pasta for everyone when Fae is away.

Ah Kit and Tyler. Everyone met at the building their therapists operated in. From the moment Tyler saw Kit he felt so familiar, so protective and swore to not let him get hurt. They would all chill together before sessions, very awkward given how guarded and untrusting they were of each other. Tyler would fetch Kit's drinks, open his snacks for him, sit at an angle so that Kit's chair was practically in between his legs to "protect" him.

Kit's the smallest and Tyler's the biggest, size kink go brrr, Kit can't help but feel so safe next to him, when they walk together he clings onto Tyler's ring and middle finger. He often falls asleep, he's a very tired lil thing, and Tyler's used to carrying him. Either bridal style, on his back when he's too tired to walk, or when Kit's regressed, on his hip. That's a very typical thing to see when Kit feels small, he folds in on himself and Tyler, Rylan or Azazel hold him like a lil toddler.
